There are degrees of reactions. No, Benedryl won't *prevent* a
full-fledged anaphylactic reaction, but, you know, even human
complete ana-kits include Benedryl, Prednisone, and Epinephrin
because each does help to reduce the severity and give more time to
bring the reaction under control.
