Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Lupron dose

Hi team machine,
I just got to your post about using Lupron depot:
200mcg of the 4 month version from a N.H. pharmacy.
Do you mean a total of 200 mcg? This would mean it
is only releasing 50 mcg per month. Or do you mean
200 mcg a month (for a total of 800 mcg) of the 4 month
version? If you are indeed using just 200 mcg per 4 months
then you are only giving enough to treat a 1 pound ferret.
Lupron is recommended at 100-500 mcg/kg per month
(ie 400-1000 mcg/kg for 4 months). Most will respond to
the 100mcg/kg/month level (about 80% of my cases); however,
cases with prostate enlargements and cases with carcinomas
typically take 200-300mcg/kg/month. Unfortunately some (<10%)
of my cases do not respond even to the 300mcg/kg/month level.
Some of these are large carcinomas, and some have spread to the
liver.
Even though the price sounds good, it is time to double check the
actual
amount of Lupron you are getting for your money.
