Hi Laura and Sue,
There are several diseases that can infect both people and ferrets.
Coccidia, giardia, crytosporidia, and toxoplasma are all possible.
The influenza virus, and other bacterial infections (E coli,
Salmonella)
could possibly be passed from humans to ferrets or from ferrets to
people.
It is going to take some aggressive testing of the people and the
ferrets
to determine what is actually causing the problem.
