Subject: Ulcer treatment
Not to sound rude or anything, but I never did get any replies to my 3 posts
about Icabod's pawing and chewing questions. I am just wondering if it was
because I posted wrong or if I did something wrong and people are mad at me
or if people just don't know.
Onto what happened. I ended up getting an appointment with my vet and took
Icabod in. He stressed a little but not as bad as last time. His heart and
lungs are sounding better and I think bringing his cage mate helped ease
him. My vet found an ulcer on his lip and a scratch on the roof of his
mouth. Also his blood glucose was really low: < 30. So we are now giving
him .6 2x day Clavamox (his teeth are BAD and she said that the Clavamox
will help in case there is an infection on one of his molars) and .4 3x day
Carafate for the ulcer and increased his pred to .3 2x day (he weighs .90
kilograms). I've read in the archives about stomach ulcers, but not about
mouth ulcers (I think he probably has a stomach ulcer too as his stool is
dark and tarry and I'm not seeing any blood from the mouth ulcer). Is this
the proper treatment. I've read about antacids in the archives and wonder if
those might be necessary but I don't see how they would apply to the mouth
ulcer.
Any replies are appreciated even if they are the "don't know" type.
Thanks,
Stephanie
