I have 2 ferrets with califlower ear, and have to keep a close watch
on them to make sure they do not get infections, etc. Also, because
of the tenderness of the area, they really hate having their ears
cleaned.
In both cases I talked to my vet at the time of the injury. We tried
immediate treatment with topical antibiotics and pred cream, hoping
to prevent permanent damage, but with no luck. We have also
discussed surgical options, but because in the case of my 2, the
swollen area actually involves the ear canal, my vet thought it
risky. He has done surgery on other ferrets ears with success, but
in those cases it involved a different part of the ear.
So, surgery is certainly worth looking in to, but it may depend on
exactly what part of the ear is involved.
