Hello: My sweet girl Zoey who is 6yrs old has had insulinona
for 2 yrs now...her first sugar level tests registered 20
(grr)...she is now stablized quite nicely on prednisone 4/ml
and proglycem (diazoxide) suspension 4 ml twice daily...her
sugar levels are about 90...I give it to her in her wet A/D
science food...no trouble there..she loves it. I can't
remember the web-sites ..its either in Ferret Central or the
Miamiferret.org sites giving one explicit details on the
disease and protocols to take..I am sure someone out there
will know and tell us. Her fur is lucious and shiny..her
appetite good....only problem is she had developed a
tummy..commonly called predtummy (sigh). But what a
improvement in her behavior..she is playful even.

Hello,
I was wondering if I could get some information on treatment
options for ferrets with insulinoma. My vet says that my
ferret has small tumors on her pancreas that causes her
blood sugar level to drop causing seizures... and it has. I
am currently treating her with prednisone but it does not
seem to be doing much. Her blood test showed her blood sugar
level to be 18 instead of 100 where it should be. My vet
suggested surgery.
Is this my only option? What can I do? I am at a loss. I
would appreciate any help you can give me!
