In my experience, a tank cover should do the trick, and most
reputable pet supply stores will have a nice variety of styles that
will serve to keep the weaselbabies out and the fishies in. (Be sure
to tell the staff at the pet store why you are buying the cover so
you get the right one!) Most covers can be trimmed as necessary for
whatever heaters and filtration systems you use, and if you garnish
the cover lightly with Red Hot sauce, even the most determined
weaselbaby will find another place to play after one sniff. A nice
benefit to using a tank cover is that less water is lost through
evaporation, and the heating elements last longer, as the lids tend
to retain a bit of heat.
