Have you checked the paw for sarcoptic mange? One of the focal points of
mange in ferrets is the feet. It can cause the paws to become inflamed,
swollen, and crusted. In some cases the nails can become deformed and even
fall off (according to "Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents, Clinical Medicine and
Surgery"; HIllyer & Quesenberry). It is sometimes referred to "foot rot" and
can cause the foot to be lost if not treated. Hillyer goes on to recommend
ivermetin, subcutaneously, for treatment.
