I make a soup for my ferrets. Champ lived on it
the last 6 months of his life. I give it to all
of mine weekly so they'll be familiar with the
taste. I use it for sick ones and recent
surgeries. The cube part comes in because I
freeze it in ice cube trays. The soup consists of
ground kibble (or canned), Ensure, Pedialyte,
chicken baby food (this wasn't in Champ's since he
had renal failure), and canola oil (some recommend
other types of oils). It is very palatable (well,
to ferrets anyway) and is high in calories.

In your case, however, with intestinal surgery,
you might stick to Hill's A/D (available from your
vet). You need to feed a bland diet for a while
and stick to soft foods. You could mix it with
the chicken baby food to see if it might be more
accepted. Add some water to make a mush and heat
it a little in the microwave. Mine always like it
better warmed. Oh, and you have to sing while
giving it to him. Sukie swears that makes all the
difference <g>. I just talk quietly about this
and that.
