Subject: heavy cream for GI problems??

I have 2 ferrets that I have been feeding by finger licking q4 hours around the clock for almost 6 months now. In the last several months they've both had gastric resects, spleenectomies, adrenalectomies, and partial pancreatectomies. I obtained them from a shelter 7 months ago, both are about 3-4 years old.

I had written a few days ago because all the routine ulcer txs haven't worked on them, and after 6 months of carafate and gastric resects, there's been no improvement. strangely enough, I think due to my chronic lack of sleep over the past 6 months, I have now developed a stress ulcer myself.

The only thing that seems to help my stomach in the past week has been heavy cream, which i am taking just prior to meals, zantac doesn't seem to have significantly improved me yet. Since the heavy cream was helping me I decided to try it with my ferrets. Both of them lapped it up, I actually had to stop them from drinking too much, and both ate independently for the first time in almost half a year. one of them actually went to the dry food bowl and started munching on a few pieces, which is nothing short of a miracle at this point. I got 8 hours sleep for the last 2 nights in a row, and neither of them seem the worse for wear. Only one of them is making any attempt to eat dry food, but at least i haven't had to finger feed them for the last 2 days. They've been eating rotisserie chicken that is boiled in crock pot for 2 days, then blended till smooth with a tube of ferretvite and a tablespoon of olive oil thrown in. Kind of a modified bob church's chicken gravy. they wi!
ll not eat baby food.

my question is, does heavy cream have the same action as carafate in the stomach lining, by coating the holes in the stomach from acid production? if so, could this be an alternative treatment or is it an adjunct treatment to carafate, since the carafate has had absolutely 0 effect all this time.

I've been absolutely at the end of my rope with lack of sleep lately, and am actually grateful I got this ulcer, or else I wouldn't have known what my babies are going through, and never would have thought of using heavy cream as a treatment option.

I've seen posts on this list before of people using heavy cream as a treat, but not in tx of disease processes. Is there any harm in giving 5cc of heavy cream qid to 5xday for a month or so period of time??
