Although this isn't the usual time of the year for it, seasonal hair loss in the ferret can cause hair loss that usually just occurs in the tail base.

Your ferret should probably still be screened for adrenal disease since many people believe that "seasonal hair loss" may be an early or pre-adrenal dx change.

Different skin problems like ringworm can also cause hair loss, but they are pretty rare.

I hope this is helpful,

Hi there,
My 5 year old male is finally getting over his bald tail. I wiped
his tail with hygrogen peroxide on a cotton ball twice a day and got
yellow stuff like black head type stuff off. His tail sure is
looking good. They scratch a lot anyway, but use flea stuff on them
anyway. I read where bald tail is from stress. Good luck.
