Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Follow-up Questions on Ace
Inhibitors (Benazepril)
Hi Michaela,
Sorry it took so long to reply.
Sorry I have only used Enacard. In dogs, I often
use Enacard even if the BUN is elevated. It usually
does not make the BUN or kidneys worse. Lotensin
(benazepril) may be safer to use, but I have never used
in pets before. Time to consult with the cardiologist there
at The Ohio State vet school. They can call Dr Matt Miller
down at Texas A&M to consult with also.
Hope that helps,
Jerry
PS- As for surgery, the renal cyst would not bother me, but the AI
would scare me. You are between a rock and a hard place.
Pediapred to treat the insulinoma will make the heart problem
worse. Yet surgery to treat the insulinoma may kill the ferret.
I would use just ISO to mask her down and to maintain her. If
they can use SEVO, that is even better and safer than ISO.
