Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] itchy ferret

HI,
My ferret Woolf had horrible sores with her adrenal near the
end. She had her first surgery at 1 and 2 more followed, but
in her 5th year developed these sores that looked like she was
burned, and was terribly itchy. My vet and I tried everything
to get rid of them. Then one day I started to use a vitamin e
ointment from the health food store. Within a short time her
sores were gone and her hair even started to grow back in
patches.
Take care,
Steph and Mikey

Hello,
Can anyone suggest something for a very itchy ferret?
(Besides Benadryl or Pred) Flounder my black eyed white is
also a victim of adrenal problems and is on the Lupron
injection (200mcg- 4month depot). He scratches and scratches
all the time. I know he is miserable and it makes me
miserable just having to watch him itch so much. We have
tried the Benadryl but it is not working. I've bathed him
and that doesn't work only stresses him out! He has very
little hair and sometimes scratches so much his skin becomes
irritated from his nails. I need to keep his nails trimmed
all the time so the damage he does to his skin is lessened.
I would be grateful for any input. Thanks much!! KM
