Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Dr. Murray- hypoglycemia
cataracts

Hi,
This may not be similar at all to the hypoglycemis/insulinoma
cataracts that you are talking about in ferrets, but I have
seen a dog who developed diabetes while pregnant. It was very
hard to regulate and she then developed cataracts.
Take care,
Steph

causing cataracts

Hi Dr. Murray

I ran across something you wrote about cataracts last week.
You mentioned the many ways ferrets can get cataracts and
one way was from hypoglycemia/insulinoma. I had never heard
of this so I asked my boss who is a board certified
veterinary ophthalmologist and he never heard of it either.
He was wondering where you found this information. He
personally has seen most cataracts from retinal
degeneration.

Thanks for any help : )
Sue, CVT
