Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] cardiomyopathy--need ultrasound values
values

I am sorry to hear about your ferret. We ran into the same problem with finding values for my ferret Mikey. Mike Janke kindly forwarded the name of Dr.Burk, a board certified radioligist, who studied 100 ferrets to help establish guidelines. His number is 305-437-9630.

Dr. Williams also wrote to say that the values could be found in Vet Radiol Ultrasound 2000 Sep-Oct;41 (5):452-6. My vet was able to obtain a copy from the local Vet. university at Guelph. It had everything that he needed. Dr. Williams also gave the name of a vet Dr. Jean Wardell, Austin Vet Clinic 703-941-5300.
Thank you again to Dr.Williams and Mike, Also Guelph for faxing the article within 20 minutes of the request.
I hope that this may be of some help.
Take care,
Steph

Fritz has cardiomyopathy and an ultrasound was performed this morning. However, the internist does not have reference ranges for ferrets---does anyone have this information or know where I can find it? All we know is that his heart is similar to a normal cat's heart. Doesn't sound good.
