Subject: Re: vaccinations

It's getting near that time of year again, and Bogie's new vet has
recommended not giving him either rabies or distemper vaccitnation.

Two years ago he reacted to the rabies shot. Last fall we decided not to
give him the rabies, only the distempter. Thirty minutes after the shot he
reacted---it was awful!

Earlier this year he was diagnosed with insulanoma and had surgery. To make
a long story short, his recovery was dreadful. He appeared to be in pain
and wouldn't sleep or eat but would run around spasticly. He is now doing
well and is on pred.

I changed vets this summer and discussed his vaccination history. She
suggested that he forgo any vaccination due to his previous reactions and
current condition. My concern is distemper. His vet said the chances of
him getting distemper are slim. I'm worried that he could pick it up off my
shoes or from an occassional visit with a dog or cat (the cat is an indoor
cat).

Any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated! Thanks for listening.
