Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Vaccinations,Adrenal,Insulinoma
problems-is there a connection?
I have not heard anything ferret specific, but I have had a
prominent veterinary oncologist tell me she feels that excess
vaccinations are responsible for the high cancer rates we're
seeing in all companion animals.
The problem is that there IS canine distemper out there, and
if you take your animal into the public at all there is a risk
if there is any kind of incident and they are not vaccinated
against rabies.
It really is a situation where we are caught between a rock
and a hard place...

I spoke with my vet, Dr. Susan Wales, 2 days ago re.
vaccinations of ferrets. Her opinion is that indoor ferrets
should NOT be vaccinated---and wonders if there could be a
possible effect re. later health problems, e.g.adrenals,
insulinomas, etc. I have met no one here in Kelowna,B.C.
Canada that has had these health problems in their ferrets
IF their ferrets are indoors and NOT vaccinated. I wonder if
there has been any research done on the long-term effects of
the var. types of ferret vaccinations on ferret health and
well-being?
