Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Vaccinations,Adrenal,Insulinoma
problems-is there a connection?

We should clarify for everyone that you are from outside of
the US< and it is
possible that distemper is actually very rare where you live,
;unfortunately, in
the US distemper is prevelant and no vet would recommend not
to vaccinate-
unless medical reasons.
Although, the other part of your question is a good one, there
are other factors
to consider, diet fed, lighting and age of spay/neuter that
may also play a part
in the differences between our countries, as well as, the
genetic stock.

I spoke with my vet, Dr. Susan Wales, 2 days ago re.
vaccinations of ferrets. Her opinion is that indoor ferrets
should NOT be vaccinated---and wonders if there could be a
possible effect re. later health problems, e.g.adrenals,
insulinomas, etc. I have met no one here in Kelowna,B.C.
Canada that has had these health problems in their ferrets
IF their ferrets are indoors and NOT vaccinated. I wonder if
there has been any research done on the long-term effects of
the var. types of ferret vaccinations on ferret health and
well-being?
