We have had ferrets react to vaccines.

While we have not had one in our family with canine distemper or
rabies (Thank goodness), both are in our area, and several years
back a client of the hospital we use did get Canine Distemper in her
business (which is why she began going to them for care, I gather,
since some who had been vaccinated 2 or 3 years before had some
resistance -- though they suffered some permanent problems, anyway
from what bits I was told). Have lived in a household where a dog
that had been adopted from a pound soon after came down with Canine
Distemper despite the friend who adopted her arranging a visit to a
clinic right after adoption for shots, and it was truly horrible (so
are reactions, but we can usually treat them). We try to go for a
middle ground; if one has a history of a bad reactions those shots
stop for that individual while the others get them.

If you are trying to get across that very little is ever clear-cut, I
suspect you chose just the right way to illustrate that.
