I had 7 ferrets in my shelter die of distemper. I held them and saw them die
because some idiot did not vaccinate. one of the ferrets that died was 8
months old. His picture is on the files list - a before and the day I had him
put down.
Of my personal ferrets, I have had none react to the vaccine. I have about 2
a year coming into the shelter that react in varying degrees - the last bad
reaction was in 1999.
I live in Southeastern Virginia - we have had many rabid animals picked up
that have attacked/bitten people and pets this year. We have not had an
epizootic for distemper this year, but they happen about every 2-3 years. I
can't advocate not vaccinating unless your ferret has a reaction. I just
can't - I saw Mambo die - for no reason.
