No, you are right, my point was made to the one that
uses it as a pretreat and right after the vaccine to
prevent a reaction that hasn't happened yet, but
I assume has happened in the past.
Just didn't want others to think it is used as a pretreatment as
universally as Benadryl is. Of course, if there is a reaction it
is life saving, and if there is an extreme case maybe
pretreatment is indicated, just wondering about alternatives
like a different vaccine, or titers can be done instead when
possible.
It would work in pretreatment by suppressing the immune
system from over reacting to the vaccine and perhaps
decreasing the oncoming reaction- like using steroids
in those with severe allergic reactions until the offending
antigen is gone. So, it would work, but would also
possibly decrease the actual immune response to the
vaccine which is the point of the vaccine.
I think it is used as a last resort in some cases?
