Subject: IBD and Imuran
I have posted in the past regarding my experiences with Imuran and
IBD. The protocol worked very well for my ferret, Zinc, as well;
however, her dosage was much lower than the original poster's
dosage. Zinc only received a maximum of 0.1 cc every other day. I
don't recollect the concentration of the Imuran, and since I've
thrown it out, I won't be able to tell you. I suspect it was the
same as Lisa's.
And like Lisa stated, it took several weeks for Zinc to respond.
Meanwhile, she was going back to the vet to have her blood levels
checked. Imuran does have side effects -- it was the primary reason
the blood levels were checked regularly. Additionally, Zinc remained
on pediapred while taking Imuran. My vet believes that using both
drugs in conjunction with each other will reduce the side effects
since lower dosages can be used.
