Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Re: Vaccine and dexamethasone

Hi,

I'm the one who posted about this first, I think. My ferret Nyssa was
pretreated with dexamethasone for three days prior to a rabies vaccination and
with both dexamethasone and benadryl before the injection was given. My vet
does this only in the case of a previous extremely severe reaction. Nyssa
nearly died the year before. The pretreatment worked, and Nyssa had no
reaction at all this year. However, in every other case where one of my
ferrets had a history of reactions, only benadryl was used to pretreat, and
only 30-45 minutes before the vaccination.

Does that clear things up at all?

All the best,
Caity
