Subject: Distemper Vaccine - Merial
To answer your question, most ferrets had been vaccinated multiple
times, and several had previously reacted mildly to severely - one of
Barb's other ferrets and one of mine had also reacted previously
(Fervac), and did not react to the Merial.. But as Barb can tell you,
even if one in 100,000 reacts, and it is yours ... On the other hand,
distemper in ferrets is 100% fatal ... so I opt for the shots and pre-
medicate (and pray), and many of my ferret buddies opt to not vaccinate.
By the way, Merial seemed genuinely concerned and kind when Mufasa
reacted - very nice when a company responds that way. We all signed
waivers, so it wasn't motivated by a desire to avoid liability. Made
some points with me ...
