Subject: Vaccinating ADV+ ferrets
I have looked in the archives, but did not see this
addressed.
It is time to vacinate my personal ferrets. Several
(4 of the 9) have had reactions ranging from mild to
severe in the past. I will pre-medicate and have my
vet available during the vaccinations. I have also
chosen to use Galaxy D this year.
My question is about my ADV+ kids. Is it better to
vaccinate them for CDV and Rabies, or to stop
vaccinating them, and not challenge their immune
system any more than necessary?
Taz (+) had a severe reaction to the Fervac last time.
He is way overdue for a booster. I have been afraid
to subject him to it.
Hershey Kisses (+) No reactions to date.
Dutchess (-) reacted mildly to both the CDV and Rabies
last time. They were given separated by a couple of
months. (Fervac)
Duke (tests weak positive by ELISA, but negative by
CEP through United and CIEP at U of GA) reacted mildly
to his last CDV. (Fervac)
Bandit (-) had a severe reaction to the Fervac with
his last vaccination.
I am worried about all my kids that have reacted in
the past, but I am really wondering if it is something
we even want to do with the ADV (+) ferrets. It
might be nice to have a recommended protocol outlined
for this.
Thanks for any help,
Julie
