Subject: kidney failure diet

in humans with renal insufficiency and early renal failure (who are not on dialysis) a low protein, low potassium and low phosphorus diet is usually prescribed. since ferrets don't usually eat a lot of food containing phosphorus, that may not be a big issue, but i'm wondering if a low protein and low potassium diet would be of any benefit to a renal impaired ferret, for both improving quality of life, and extending life.

also, when my cat had renal failure, until it reached end stage, he would urinate in enormous quantities. he also had a very characteristic uremic odor. does this occur with ferrets also??
