That is a topic which is still being studied.

Certainly, it is known now that sweets are bad for those who have
insulinoma, though they may be periodically needed to stop a seizure
when the medical or surgical approach to that health problem needs
refinement.

Can they cause pancreatic problems? No one knows for sure, but some
think that is possible, and mechanisms have been postulated. You
will find discussions of this in past FML posts by using the search
feature.

Since, the last I read, no one actually knows if sweets or starches
pose that sort of risk it is not known if only certain sugars may be
problems, or what amounts may be problems. When more is known we'll
all learn.
