Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] melatonin

Hi Christina,
Some of the information I have gleaned from various sources recommend 1 to 3 mg of Melatonini given to the ferret 8 hours after day break. I have been using 1 mg mixed in with a glob of nutrical per ferret. After about three months all three ferrets that are on this regime have hair growth and are less aggressive. Lupron is a synthetic form of Melatonin so i would recomend one or the other although it may be wise to start with a few depots of Lupron and switch to Melatonin. BTW, the price for the Lupron shots seem to be reasonable but most authorities seem to like 2000 mg for a 4 month depot which would work out to be 500 mg per month. Go to http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/about_lupron.htm to read a great article by the great Dr. Weiss. Hope this helps and good luck with your fuzzy.

Hi

Can somebody please tell me the amount of melatonin recommended to help the
symptoms of adrenal disease?? Bandit's right adrenal is back (cells I guess
we're not caught during cryo) anyway the vet says it's as big as a pencil
eraser. I'm not going to have him operated on because he's to fragile. I
was thinking of putting him on lupron and melatonin
