Discuss these questions with your vet as far as when he wants
the ferret to resume
regular feeds and activity.
You will need a separate cage for recovery if you have more
than one ferret, and
one level is best so the ferret doesn't climb for a few days-
also litter should be
pellet or just newspaper- so it doesn't get stuck to the
stitched area.

I did have a ferret have his spleen removed during adrenal
surgery, he bounced back
in a day to eating and in a few days back into the group he
went.
My vet put the stitches on the inside and they absorbed
without problems, however if
there is also a surgical glue that can be used too to keep the
skin together if he
bothers the area. I don't know if I was lucky or not, but my
ferret did not bother the
surgical site, and either did the others.

I understand a splenectomy is not a difficult surgery, as
surgeries go? About how long will he be "under"? More
important, what can I expect post-surgery? I've never gone
through a surgery with a ferret before.... I assume I'll
need to continue frequent, small feedings of ground,
moistened kibble? Or will he feel so much better having
that monstrous spleen removed that he'll be back to whole,
dry kibble? How do I keep him from trying to remove the
stitches, or scratch at the incision?
