Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Re: Impacted Scent Glands

My opinion,

There's no reason to have a ferrets Scent Glands expressed unless they are
having problems and the Scent Glands are Impacted. I have both ferret that
have their Scent Glands and ferrets that don't. There is no difference
between the two unless one of them gets upset and releases their scent
glands. When one of them does this it stinks, but it doesn't last that long.
I know that you can express them yourself if you are shown how. I have seen
the shelter mom and one of the members do it many times. I have even had one
of my friends do it to one of my jills, because her's seems to stink more
then others when she lets loose. I also know of people that have had their
ferrets descented later in life and these ferrets often have problems later
on. Most vets will not do it!
