Subject: 3rd degree AV block
I hate to say this, because either you already know and I'll look
like a fool, or you don't know and this is bad news. I work in a
Cath/EP lab and the only thing we can do for humans is put in a
pacemaker. There are no drugs to treat that severe of a block(that I
know of). Essentially, something has caused a disruption between the
normal pacer cells and the path it should be taking to the
ventricle. Unfortunately, that usually means dead area somewhere in
the cardiac tissue which will not regenerate. The block could
explain the enlargement, or could be a symptom of something else that
caused the enlargement too. It sounds like CHF and if I was you I
would not subject him to surgery. It most likely that he would not
recover from the anesthesia. I hope I don't sound like I'm blowing
smoke. I'm not a nurse or doctor, just a tech. And if you knew all
this, sorry to waste your time reading it. maybe someone else can
benefit from the limited info I have. I am so sorry to hear that
your baby is sick, I know this is not what you wanted to hear. I
wish you the best of luck and the best days with your baby.
