kat I steam clean the carpets in my ferret room every
month or so. I use a commercial cleaner (currently Blue
colored Bissell, but I'm planning on trying the Resolve
too) to which I add a heaping scoop of OxiClean per steam
cleaner tank. ( the OxiClean smells awful initially, but
REALLY helps the smell overall). I have never done a
water rinse.

I let the guys out after the carpet is almost dry- depends
on how pathetic they look, and how much they are rattling
the cage doors. I have never had a problem with any of
them from cleaning the carpet other than getting seriously
pounced for moving their toys.....
