What you are taling about is what is called an adjuvant - a compund
that is incorporated into a vaccine in order to ramp up the boy's
immune reaction to the injection. Adjuvants are very immunogenic,
and while the body is reacting to it, it also has an enhanced
reaction to the vaccine organism as well.
Your theory certainly has been discussed at great length by many vets
and physicians over the years. While I am not familiar with ethylene
glycol, aluminum has until recently been a common adjuvant. In the
last seven years, and increased incidence of sarcoma following
vaccination has been seen in cats, and aluminum, although not yet
causally proven to be culprit, certainly has shouldered its share of
the blame. (However, you can't repeat the lesion by injecting the
aluminum compound only.)
Some adjuvants, including the very early ones, were so good at
causing a reaction, that subsequent vaccinations almost killed the
animals. Today, Freund's complete adjuvant results in a model of
anaphylaxis in rabbits that is used as an animals model for toxic
renal failure.
I know what's coming next - could it be the adjuvant that causes so
many cases of anaphylaxis in ferrets. Without being privy to all of
the adjuvant information on the various vaccines - it could be. But
it is likely that it is a multifactorial problem, because testing of
vaccines often starts with the testing of the adjuvant products first
by themselves.
