Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] emergency kit

okay...this is what's in the bag I take to shows :
-2 small bags IV fluids, one spiked with dextrose, IV line,
needles
-tube of icing sugar (for seizures)
-scissors
-1cc, 3cc and 10cc syringes
-injectible epinephrine, benadryl and dexamethasone
-amoxicillan (unmixed liquid) and tylan powder
-styptic powder
-Pet Nutri Drops
-Biocain antiseptic cream
-hemostat
-alchohol and betadine pads
-electorlyte powder
-pepcid tabs
-peptobismal tabs
-small bottle of Ferretone
-thermometer
-tube of Nutrical
-a couple gauze sponges and a roll of gauze
-q tips
-jar of baby food: chicken

Hmmm I think that's it. The most common "emergency" I've seen
at shows is a ferret who was not known to have inulinoma
suddenly seizing because of low blood sugar.

I also think this would be very valuable information to
share. I'm sure all the vets, shelter operators and
long-time ferret owners will have excellent suggestions on
what we should keep on hand. Would it be possible for
someone to compile all the useful suggestions and save it as
a single document in the Files section? I just thought that
might be helpful for later reference.

Diane & the gang
I was once told that it is good idea to have a first-aid
kit at hand
in case of accidents which need some treatment
immediatley, I can no
longer find the web site it was on and would like a list
if at all
possible of what I should have at hand in my home to help
my babies
if something nasty, (god forbid) ever happened. Has
anybody else
heard of this or have a kit of their own? If I remember
correctly it
contained things like Iodine and cotton-buds, (for
cleaning wounds,
not ears). If anybody has such a kit a contents list
would be much
appreciated.
