Hello tansyhl@y... (tansy),

line, needles
-tube of icing sugar (for seizures)
-scissors
-1cc, 3cc and 10cc syringes
- injectible epinephrine, benadryl and dexamethasone
-amoxicillan (unmixed liquid) and tylan powder
-styptic powder
-Pet Nutri Drops
-Biocain antiseptic cream
-hemostat
-alchohol and betadine pads
-electorlyte powder
-pepcid tabs
-peptobismal tabs
-small bottle of Ferretone
-thermometer
-tube of Nutrical
-a couple gauze sponges and a roll of gauze
-q tips
-jar of baby food: chicken

Can you explain what all this stuff is for?

Mary

::groannnnn: only kidding:: Sure.... Um, I will group by
what I have used them/carry them for:

Anaphylactic or allergic reaction eg rabies vaccination ,
spider bites:
injectible epi, benadryl and dex

Seizures or other signs of low blood sugar, esp in older
ferrets or ferrets w/ known insulinoma:
Icing sugar (the little tubes, white or colors, place
along gum line. Best way I know to get sugar in quickly,
and you can see it.), IV solution with dextrose
administered subq with line or 10 or 20 cc syringe. Pet
Nutri Drops- good for crashes due to insulinoma or other
causes, but tastes AWFUL. Baby chicken food to get their
sugar levels stablized once recovering.

Wound care or abrasions:
gauze,Biocaine, betadine pads for cleaning wound, alcohol
for sterilizing. Hemastat for holding stuff and pulling
out small teeth. Scissors to cut stuff. Styptic powder for
cut toenails.

Upset stomachs/ulcers:
Pepcid, Peptobismal. Amoxicillan if ulcer suspected.

"sick" ferrets:
thermometer to check temps, antibiotics if running fever.
Amoxi and tylan that can be mixed on site.

Heat problems, as in too much:
electrolyte powder that can be put into water bottles if
hot out. Plain Ringer's (w/out dextrose) if really
dehydrated that can be administered subq.

The Ferretone and Nutri-Cal are for distraction primarily,
though the Nutri-Cal (I use Nutri-Stat actually) is a good
source of concentrated calories.

Hmmm I think that's it.... Let me know if I missed
anything, or need more explanation.
