Subject: Re: Brutus Blood Glucose is HIGH!

Since my last post, I have been doing some research on the side
effects of melatonin, and have found some articles that suggest it can
increase blood glucose. Maybe this is what has happened to Brutus as
I started him on 3 mg daily about 2-3 weeks ago. I also wonder if the
melatonin could cause a false reading on the machine, or if it could
be interacting with the lupron or prednisone to cause an increased
blood glucose. Lots of questions, I know. I'm hoping someone out
there has some answers. In the meantime, I am stopping the melatonin
and prednisone until the glucose comes down. I will see what my vet
says too.

On a side note, if melatonin DOES increase blood glucose, maybe it
would be a good treatment for insulinoma victims. I wonder if I will
end up being able to get Brutus totally off pred and using a smaller
dose of melatonin if his blood glucose falls back down to its previous
