Subject: Insulinoma & Food

I have read so many interesting things on this list; I'm just in awe of how
knowledgeable so many ferret owners are. I've got a simple question, I think.

I have a 7 year old litlle girl who had surgery for insulinoma about 14
mos. ago. She bounced back obviously feeling better than she had in
years. I took her back in about a month ago because she has been showing
signs of it's return. Her blood sugar was really low even tho she had
eaten recently. Having been on 2.5mg. predisone every other day since
surgery, we increased it to every day, but he said that's about all he can
do. When that doesn't work, it's just time to let her go.

I can deal with that as long as I know I'm doing all I can to keep her
quality of life OK. She eats Iams Original Cat Food & gets a bit of
chicken baby food with her medicine. I know to make sure she eats often,
but even after increasing the pred., she's constantly restless & looks
uncomfortable like she's in some kind of pain. Not sure if it's relevant,
but she seldom bothers to find a "litter' corner anymore (we have papers in
several corners around the house).

Is there anything else I should be feeding her that would help regulate the
blood sugar problem? I do have Nutri-Cal but only use it when she really
needs it. Should I give that to her on a more regular basis maybe?
