Hi- we are going to try the new Merial vaccine on one of our
ferrets
on Thursday. Scooter had a very bad reaction to the Fervac
vaccine a
year ago and we're reluctant to use that again. If we were going
to
use that, I have read enough to know to pre-treat w/Benedryl, stay
at
vet's afterwards, etc., but do I need to do that with the new
vaccine
at all?
Last week we had our brand new 9 month old (we adopted and he'd
never seen a vet) vaccinated with the new Merial vaccine. The vet
did not pretreat, nor did I give him Benadryl before we left the
house.
Within minutes after the shot, he was bouncing himself around the
carrier scratching and biting at himself. They took him in the
back and his temp had gone from 102 to 103.6. Vet gave him a shot
and we waited another hour to be sure he was ok. Nobody's quite
sure it was from the vaccine, but the vet wrote it down as a
reaction (for next time).
I would definitely pre-treat!
