Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Heat versus Adrenal disease

re: female in heat-

my advice to you Gabrielle is to take your ferret to the vet for hormone
shot (HCG 100 IU IM)
the vet will know what this is... arrange to have the spay 42 days
following the injection. This should synchronize her hormones for a speedy
recovery.

Your ferret indeed is in estrus and will return into estrus during mating
season every 6 weeks or so-- jills go back into estrus quickly after
falsing , they will also cycle back in when they stop nursing a litter..
the reason your female went right back into heat is she was not nursing--
as she had no litter to nurse- so her body is ready to continue the
reproductive cycle.

I believe you are assuming the enlarged vulva is the "adrenal
symptom". The enlarged vulva serves a defined purpose in the mating
process.. that aside please consider spaying this older gal. To continue
her repeat of falsing by v-hobs is not a great route. She can still be
susceptible to venereal diseases, infections etc using this course of
action. The best way to give her great health and happiness as a pet is to
spay her!

feel free to email me direct should you have further questions.
