Subject: BLOODY DIARRHEA & VOMITING

Our male ferret is 13 months and since he was 6 months old he has had
4 different episodes of bloody diarrhea (large amounts), vomiting,
dehydration, & lethargy. We have tried (on different occasions)
Septra and Prednisone which seem to help but we've also done nothing
and he's gotten better on his own. These episodes usually last a
couple of days and the lethargy up to a week. We've tested stool,
urine, blood (CBC etc.), xrays... everything but biopsies which is
what our vet wants to do next. We've changed his diet from kitten
food to Totally Ferret to now Hypoallergenic Cat food. We've
eliminated everything else from his diet except Ferretone & Tonic
Lax. Has anyone ever heard of these symptoms, does it have a name,
and what do we do?? Our vet thought perhaps allergic colitis or
eosinophilic gastroenteritis. Any thoughts?

Thanks
