Subject: Not supposed to neuter till February??
Hi Bonnie
This is right, the testes of outdoor kept hobs will go back into the body,
they come out of season in autumn as the days become shorter. Then the
testes descend again in spring and the hob will come into season. But...
If they bring him indoors and he gets artificial light in the evening, his
"daylight" hours will be longer again thus fooling the body into thinking
that it's spring and he'll come into season again. So your friends could
probably have him castrated in December or even sooner.

Here's a hmmmmmm for everyone ...
We have friends in the UK who keep ferrets for hunting. After
hearing us gush about what marvellous pets they are, they have
decided to try bringing one they consider to be rather charming in.
Now, we have suggested neutering Hamish (who is 2 1/2) but their vet
has told them that he (or she) cannot do the surgery till February
because Hamish' testicles will withdraw up into the body for the
winter and only drop again in the spring.
Is this true? Or is someone having someone on?
