It is true that the surgery may be quicker and easier for the vet,
but for an older hob in full season, this could cause problems.

The sudden absence of hormones can cause some hobs to crash post
surgery. And it could take a lot of care to get them back to
normal/good health. Some may never come back 100%

I only do neuters on in season hobs when the hob will not go out/has
been in *too* long or is otherwise over stressed from being *so* in
season. My vet has no problem doing neuters on pea-sized noogies as
compared to the larger, grape sized ones. For vasectomies, he does
prefer the larger variety - easier to find all the necessary
connections. ;)
