Subject: Ferret traumatized?

I have a question to see if anyone has experienced this.

I have a newer addition to the home, Tom, that is kept in my bedroom
because 3 of my other ferrets don't get along with him, and he
doesn't fight, he just lays there and hopes they go away.
Yesterday 2 of the 3 snuck up to the bedroom, I found them
and put them downstairs, but when I went back up I found Tom
just lying there on the floor, his neck was wet and had one
small scratch where I assume the 2 had attacked him, other than
that he was fine. He just was lying still, and I picked him up and
moved him, and cleaned his ears (well, couldn't pass up on the
opportunity), and he did not move. He wasn't shaking, he wasn't
moving, I could pet him, move him, palpate stomach, etc, and
he did not move, his eyes were open, but he wasn't aware of me-
normally he hates me, and runs away, so I know something
was wrong when he let me pick him up.

His breathing was slower than normal, heart rate was fast,
he was drooling, but color was good, capillary refill good,
paws red, gums pink, and felt warm. I was up with him
about 2 hours, he would every so often pant- and seemed
paralyzed. I was debating bringing him to an emergency vet,
but he wasn't vomiting, or having trouble breathing, so I
watched him. After some time he just "snapped out of it"
and got off the bed, went to eat and back to normal.

Is it just that he was so traumatized that he was in "shock"?-
not true shock since circulation and such were fine.

Should I have done something else for him, other than
making sure those 3 ferrets never, ever get near him again,
anything else I can do?

Thank you

Patty
