I'd love to know what textbook he was talking about. Ferrets have
Cushings so seldom that it would be a 1000 to 1 shot against it. What
ferrets get is Hyperadrenalism, also called just adrenal disease. In
Cushings, a gland in the brain goes out of kilter and causes the
adrenals to over produce. In ferret adrenal disease it's the actual
adrenal gland that gets a neoplasm that causes it to produce too much of
the precursors of the sex hormones. Treatment is usually simple, you
just open them up and remove the bad gland.

I should add that I am not a vet, just a long time ferret owner.

The best thing you can do for Felix is locate a ferret shelter near you
and take Felix over there and let him pick out a ferret that he likes
well enough to buddy with. Most shelters will allow this.
