Subject: Can a ferret get conjunctivitis? and what do you recommend
to treat it?

Can a ferret get conjunctivitis? My wife is a nurse and has had a
cat with the problem. She said it is catchy to other ferrets. The
eyelid is puffy or it is puffy and the ferret is keeping it shut.
The other possibility is that Rena a deaf ferret bit Angel. My wife
said a eye ointment (that is antibiotic.)

Can anybody help out with what type of ointment w/antibiotic if
specific for ferrets. Also if conjunctivitis is it transferable to
humans I just put my finger in my eye to rub it and it feels funny.
I washed out the eye with water but I think that is pretty
ineffective. Also from what the wife says that the ferret can
transfer the problem to other ferrets for like 24-48 hours after the
ointment is used so I have the ferret isolated.

Contacting probably an after hours vet shortly thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help I'll try not to make myself a stranger but I
have been real busy.

Regards,
Bruce
