Subject: Wrong Medication

Resicort is 1% hydrocortisone in a base used for a topical
lotion/conditioner/ Resihist is 2% Diphenhydramine in
a similar base to make it a lotion/conditioner.
Basically is is Benadryl- I don't know if any gets absorbed
when used topically, or if the ferret may have licked and
licked ingesting some. Would make the animal sleepy
and off balance, etc. If the ferret is back to normal
already, I guess no harm done. I don't know what dose
would be an overdose for a ferret- or how the topical
2% and the amount used translates to how many mg of
Diphenhydramine. Rinse the ferret very well to get off
any residual conditioner, just in case.

However, if the problem continues would look into
checking a blood glucose, in
case the animal is coincidentally starting with insulinoma,
or other problems. Maybe the rash was not just a simple
skin problem. Any fur loss, any other problems?
