Subject: Rastis licking hinself bald

My Rastis is about 5-6 years old and he has been licking at a spot. I
noticed a balding ring around the tail and kept an eye on it to see
if the balding would prgress up the back in the typical adrenal
pattern. Instead he has been licking the the balding is going down
his leg and around to his rectum. I notice also that one ear is red
and looks irritated. Along with the balding nd licking he has gotten
very dry and scabby skin in spots. The skin looks like old wrinkly
skin. I have posted a picture of him showing the spot he is licking
in files under Razzlickingspot1. I had him to the vet and we did a
skin scrapping and found no mites. I was given Badtoderm(mupiocin)
ointment to treat the spot with. This does not seem to be helping.
What could this rash and itchines be caused from ? I have done
nothing diff. or changed their food. I also have noticed a very
orangy cast to his tail and when I wash the tail it does come off his
tail. I am now noticing a smaller spot starting on him around the
front upper leg.It is very small but has signs of hair loss and also
looks like it is dirty but it is skin crude not dirt. Gee I do't kow
if I have described this too well or not but maybe the picture will
help. I am wondering if this could be some kind of allergy. All the
other ferrets I have have had coat sheds this season but I have not
noticed Ratis shedding any. Any suggestions as to what my vet should
be checking for? We are still way behind here on Ferret knowledge. As
I said the vet did a skin scraping for mites but it seems there
should be something else he should be looking for and I would like to
point him in the right direction. Thank you Reanee and Rastis
