Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Adrenal & Lupron

Hello Katherine,
I am NOT a vet but am a shelter Mom and we are using Lupron in ferrets who
cannot have surgery due to age or other conditions. Lupron does restore
the bodys fur which does a number of other things I feel are not strictly
comestic. First, it restores the skins natural moisture, without fur there
is far greater heat loss - with it an even balance of body temp is easier
to accomplish. Also adrenal skin dry, tends to crack and will get sores &
hot spots from abrasion, scratching. All that is not present with lupron
therapy.
True Lupron will not stop the spread of the tumor.. If it is a metastic
cancer the cancer will affect other organs in time however, until that
time or if it is a benign adrenal as the majority are reported to be, then
the ferrets able to get by without putting it's system in overdrive to keep
warm, without the need to fight off infection from skin abrasions etc. It
may seem like small potatoes but I find it is working well for our
geriatrics one is nearly nine years old!
