Subject: Newborns

After Pam's post last week about the babies
someone was trying to raise, I got very curious.
I have heard over and over that it's nearly
impossible to hand-raise newborn baby ferrets.
Does anyone know why? What makes them different
from other mammals? Newborn mammals are raised
all the time, both domestic and wildlife. Is it
the method (i.e. tube feeding, bottle feeding,
syringe feeding) or is it the (un)availability of
the proper formula? I know that Pet-Ag has a
formula for most anything out there. Wouldn't a
ferret baby formula be pretty similar to a weasel?

I would love to hear the vets and breeders
comments on this. I just can't comprehend why it
is so impossible to do.
