I just double-checked with Continental and MC is correct. They allow dogs,
cats, rabbits, and birds in cabin, but not ferrets. The fee is $75 now.

;) It's possible this gentle reader was less than forward with
Continental's booking agent. She told me about the $50 charge and asked
whether his carrier would fit under the seat. I said "yes" and that was
that. She didn't ask for any more information about Mike (ferret) and I
didn't volunteer any. Guess we were lucky.
To keep this somewhat on topic, my reason for flying Mike back east was to
see a vet. (I'd like to endorse but names are against the rules, right?)
What I *can* say is that surgery on ferrets in CA is expensive enough that
the entire cost of the trip back east, including bilateral adrenal surgery,
was only $200 more than the same procedure here. Mike is doing great, and I
am beyond pleased with the results.

[Moderator's Note: Endorsements for vets are more than welcome. We ask that vet names be left out when asking for second opinions. And thank you for adding the health aspect to this post. What airlines allow ferrets to fly is a bit off-topic without it.]
